Falling for Feathers

Feathers in your ears, feathers in your hair, feathers everywhere! It seems like everyone is falling for feathers!

Walk down Robson Street or check out a celebrity magazine and you’re almost guaranteed to see someone with feather hair extensions, a pair of matching feather earrings, or (my personal favourite) a long intricate feather dangling from one ear.

Although spotting someone rocking feathers is easy, searching for the perfect feathers to fit your personal style is more difficult than it seems. This is because every feather is unique. With so many different colours, lengths, patterns, and textures, finding a great pair for you is quite the feathery feat.

As a long-time feather fanatic, I already own tons of feather/leaf accessories and I wasn’t ready to settle until I found the perfect pair of long luscious neutral coloured feathers. After months of hunting for feather earrings, I finally came across the perfect pair at Aldo Accessories. These beautiful feathers are long enough that they don’t get buried under my hair and they’re are exciting enough that I can wear one alone.

I love how every feather is different and how a simple feather earring can be your outfit’s focal point. No matter your style, whether you’re a flower child or not, I think there is always room for a funky pair of feathers. If you don’t think so then you just haven’t got a case of feather fever…. yet!

Spice up Summer with Bold Brights

As the end of August approaches, we all start to think about our fall wardrobes and the more subdued colours we’ll wear, layer upon layer, to keep us warm in winter’s chill. But, luckily summer is not over quite yet. We still have a couple weeks to enjoy the beach and summer style. If you haven’t already explored bold colours this season, use these last few weeks of summer as motivation to play around with brights and you’re guaranteed to sizzle even after the sun goes down!

In a previous entry, I mentioned the colour blocking trend of pairing jewel-tones together, for example an orange top with a purple skirt. However, not everyone is brave enough to sport such a loud outfit and others might not be sure about what colours to use. So if you’re looking to keep it simple, I’d suggest adding a bold accessory. Of course, because of my chunky necklace obsession, I’d suggest trying a large bright necklace. But, if necklaces aren’t your thing I’d also suggest a funky pair of earrings. Pairing a great accessory with a plain shirt and a fun coloured bottom is an easy way to create an outfit masterpiece.

So enjoy the last bit of summer and bask in brights because before you know it we’ll all be back in boots and boring colours!

Here’s an example of a great way to color block with a bright accessory:

I n case you’re wondering the shoes and the shirt are from H&M, the skirt is from Costa Blanca, and the necklace is handmade by yours truly!

Celebrity Inspired Makeup by Eman

Depending on how you feel, what you’re wearing, or where you’re headed, switching up your makeup can make a big difference. Whether you feel like transforming into an old hollywood glamour girl with curls and rose red lips, a fresh and natural beauty with blossom coloured cheeks, or confident vixen with sultry smoky eyes, makeup has the power to make you look and feel like a new woman.

I feel like I have become a new woman since I stepped out of the box to shake up my day-to-day makeup routine. Now, before I head out for a night on the town nothing is more exciting to me than changing up my look with a bright coloured lipstick. I have become obsessed with getting creative with my makeup and my new addiction forced  me to indulge in a beautiful new brush set and a collection of coloured lipsticks.

But, if you’re like me then you’re not a makeup artist and some things you try are a hit and others are a big miss. This is where pros like Eman come in handy! She is a local Vancouver makeup artist who has a fun and helpful youtube channel where she shows you the tricks of the trade and how to get celebrity inspired looks. She has a range of makeup tutorials and she has tons of videos to watch!

Celeb Style Crush: Blake Lively

From a young age girls love to dress like princesses. Most of us have pranced around in a puffy glittery dress wearing plastic pink shoes and sparkly crown, but as we grow up so does our style. Instead of dressing like a princesses we dress like the grown up version of princesses… celebrities!

Everyone has different celebrity fashion idols, but I kept with the princess theme, trading my tiara and puffy dress for a home in the upper east side of New York and a limitless visa card. Yes thats right, for all you Gossip Girl lovers, I said good-bye to Cinderella and hello to Blake Lively.

I love her look! She is a natural beauty and all her outfits look so effortless. Somehow she manages to combine a beachy relaxed look with high class fashion forward pieces. Head to toe she always looks well put together, whether she’s on the red carpet, on the set of Gossip Girl, or spending an afternoon in town.

Here’s a collection of some of my favourite looks:
