Blue Is The New Black

Black is a staple in all of our wardorbes.

We dress it up, we dress it down, and the best part is that matches with everything.

Of course nothing will ever replace that LBD, but black is our go to colour no more.

Instead of relying on black, try mixing up your outfit with a splash of blue.

For a night out, replace your boring black heels with bright blue pumps. You’ll be surprised how easy blue is to match and how much more playful your outfit will be!

For work, try wearing a navy blue blazer instead; navy  is softer and less harsh than a sharp black blazer. It’s also fun to change up your traditional power suit with a blue blazer paired with khakis or a beige skirt.

Or if you’re still a student like me and you just need to throw on a quick outfit, pair that navy blue blazer with jeans, then you’ll look smart and fashionable at the library.

Once you realize the power of a great blue piece, you’ll stop relying on your simple black items. Right now my navy blue blazer and my bright blue pumps are two of my favourite most versatile pieces in my closet.

If I haven’t convinced you to jump into the sea of blue just yet, then take a peek at the photos below and I’m sure blue will become your new favourite colour.

Spice up Summer with Bold Brights

As the end of August approaches, we all start to think about our fall wardrobes and the more subdued colours we’ll wear, layer upon layer, to keep us warm in winter’s chill. But, luckily summer is not over quite yet. We still have a couple weeks to enjoy the beach and summer style. If you haven’t already explored bold colours this season, use these last few weeks of summer as motivation to play around with brights and you’re guaranteed to sizzle even after the sun goes down!

In a previous entry, I mentioned the colour blocking trend of pairing jewel-tones together, for example an orange top with a purple skirt. However, not everyone is brave enough to sport such a loud outfit and others might not be sure about what colours to use. So if you’re looking to keep it simple, I’d suggest adding a bold accessory. Of course, because of my chunky necklace obsession, I’d suggest trying a large bright necklace. But, if necklaces aren’t your thing I’d also suggest a funky pair of earrings. Pairing a great accessory with a plain shirt and a fun coloured bottom is an easy way to create an outfit masterpiece.

So enjoy the last bit of summer and bask in brights because before you know it we’ll all be back in boots and boring colours!

Here’s an example of a great way to color block with a bright accessory:

I n case you’re wondering the shoes and the shirt are from H&M, the skirt is from Costa Blanca, and the necklace is handmade by yours truly!

Chunky Necklace Collection

Since I posted about how much I love chunky chic necklaces I figured I should post my own growing collection of them! These three necklaces make any outfit complete. I love to wear them in so many ways and with so many outfits, especially with a plain Tee to dress-up an outfit for school or with something special for a night out.

The first necklace I bought is from Aldo. I have worn it with countless outfits and every time it adds a little something to my outfit or completely ties my look together. Whether I am wearing my greyish blazer, or a pink carnigan, or my purple/grey pants, the colorful necklace draws out certain aspects of my outfit and pulls everything together completing my look! The pants are from Aritzia, the body suit from American Apparel, the blazer from H&M, and the heels from Aldo.

The next two necklaces I got at the Bay. I got the big gold one for a statement making look. It can add some spunk to my plain T shirt and jeans. I like how the cube shapes reflect the light and how they are kind of sassy. The Tee is from Aritiza, the jeans are Levis from Urban Outfitters, and the shoes are from Le Chateau.

The necklace with the gold balls and black ribbon I purchased because I thought it could tie an outfit together nicely. I have tons of black heels and they go great with a necklace with a hint of black. I was also searching for a necklace made with ribbon because it means it’s adjustable which is great for different necklines. The skirt is from Aritzia, the heels are from Aldo, and the lipstick color is Sienna.

Which one is your favorite?
