DIY amethyst necklace

Someday I will make the drive down the coast from Vancouver to California for Coachella. I want to fulfil my dream to flail about with all the stylish hippies and sway with wannabe flower children.

Unfortunately since I am still a student I am stuck in exam hell while it seems like everyone is going to be jamming their hearts out in Cali.

But, just because I can’t attend doesn’t mean I can’t pretend!

In Coachella spirit I made my own amethyst necklace and paired it with a pleated maxi skirt for a boho chic look.

A Furry Spring Trend

It might seem bizarre to cuddle up with a fur shawl while walking along the water on a sunny spring afternoon, but runway designers like Prada, Givenchy and Celine threw out the rulebook and incorporated fuzzy creatures into their spring collections.

As noted in Vogue magazine, Prada’s brightly coloured fur shawls, Givenchy’s furry sunglasses and Celine’s fuzzy sandals are just some of the items previously relegated to fall collections, until now!

We’ve had discussions at school about how changing weather patterns, call it global warming if you will, have virtually allowed fall wardrobes to become spring wardrobes and visa versa.

This means that the fuzz on the spring runway is just as much for shock value as it is for practicality. Embrace the trend and you will be reaching for your sunglasses AND your favourite furry accessory this season!

A little spring in my step

As much as I tell myself spring is just around the corner, I know there is a great chance that Ontario will experience another snowstorm (like the annoying flurries today). However, the impending doom of a white out won’t stop me from prematurely flirting with spring fashion trends.

Obviously us Canadians aren’t able to wear block heeled sandals just yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start playing with other spring trends that are appropriate for the slushy, snow rain outside.

Two easy spring 2013 fashion trends to try right now are boyfriend fit jeans and electrifying neon hues.

I paired my J Brand jeans with a sleeveless neon blouse, layering it with a sweater to stay toasty, and added another pop of neon with a necklace from J. Crew to pull the outfit together.

Adding a neon accessory to complete your look is probably the easiest way to stay on trend this season whether the weather is warm or not!

Pleats, Pink lipstick and Punches of coral

Most fashion lovers have two favourite seasons: fall and spring. The arrival of these seasons brings a slew of fashion magazines containing artistic displays of the latest designs and trends.

As soon as the first crispy red leaf falls in autumn or the first ray of sun wakes the flowers from slumber in spring, I will have already dashed to the convenience store to grab a bundle of magazines. After my magazine splurge, I then begin my fashion ritual, where I lock myself in my room for hours to marvel and study the season’s new cuts, textures and colours.

Ever since partaking in my not-so-secret ritual a couple months ago, saying that I’ve been itching to go to the mall would be an understatement… I’m dying to go!

There are so many trends that I am excited about this year! The 1950s feminine cuts and fabrics, electric neon, soft and demur pastels, pleated skirts, mix-matched patterns, and bright lipsticks are all trends that I can’t wait to try.

Bright Lipstick

If you have been following my blog for any length of time, you’ve probably noticed my huge lipstick obsession. So of course, the bold and bright lipstick colours this spring are driving me crazy! Ever since Kate King appeared on Elle Canada’s February cover sporting a soft yet bold pink pout, I’ve been on the hunt for a similar shade.

I finally satisfied my latest lipstick craving at MAC Comestics with the discovery of their shade Saint Germain. This adorable pink is definitely going to be on my lips all spring and into the summer.

Coral Accessories

As previously noted, I adore a hint of coral during the warmer months. From outrageous oranges to poppin’ pinks, the coral-ish family is fun to explore.

If lipstick isn’t really your thing, try adding coral accessories. I’m naturally drawn to statement necklaces right now, but earings, rings or a bright clutch can also add a delightful punch of coral to your outfit.

Pretty Pleats

With so many charming feminine pieces to choose from this season, I feel like I am in style heaven. I love innocent, girly items and this spring is full of them!

One of my favourite trends right now is pleated skirts. I love the way they hang, blow in the wind, expand when twirled, and, most of all, how demur I feel when I have one wrapped around my waist.

I love maxi pleated skirts but, due to my petite stature, shorter hemlines are better for my figure. The pleated skirt I chose to add to my closet is short in the front and long in the back. I love this cut because it’s a modern twist on the classic item and, most importantly, it makes my legs appear longer. For those of you with legs for miles, I jealously suggest a longer pleated skirt.

I am so inspired by this season’s fashion trends that I had to style a fun photo shoot illustrating some of my favourite spring trends! If you have any questions or comments about these spring fashion trends, get at me!

Just a little photo credit and shout out to my jschool friend Josh Zeliger for not only taking fantastic photos, but being a pleasure to work with!

Until next time…
